Hi! Just stopped by to congratulate you on your win! Feel free to stop by anytime!!
"Yesterday, I got up at like 7 something AM to go musical rehearsal. It's all coming together and getting pretty exciting. However, I was dragged to a totally lame party last night. The people there were obsessed with video games. I was so bored; I did some of my biology homework. I really don't want to type about it. Not worth the effort. I've got a crap load of stuff to do today."
It was one of those typical parties where all the parents seemed to know each other from somewhere and the little kids ran around annoying the heck out of everyone. Luckily, I had the foresight to bring a tote bag with my biology textbook, binder, coloring plates, and colored pencils. At my mother's bidding, I dressed nicely in a satin-lined empire-waist top paired with jeans, jewelry, and heels; the heels didn't make a difference inside the house but it made me feel better. As per usual with my parents, we arrived late and I made a big fashionable entrance into the basement where all the people my age were hanging out. I can honestly say that I have never seen a bigger collection of freaks in my life.
No offense to anyone out there; my astonishment was in large part due to the fact that these people weren't like the usual crowd I hang out with. I suppose they're all "normal" within their group and indeed, there where a few people who seemed normal, but I still think they exhibited behavior that is not normal on my terms or that of plenty of other people's. When I came down, they were gathered around the TV. I asked what was on screen and it turns out, it was an oh-so-amazing video game I had never heard of. Seeing that the only gaming systems I own are a computer and an ancient Gameboy Advance from 4th grade (of its whereabouts, I have no clue), it stands to reason.
I quickly got bored so I went upstairs and walked around while nodding and smiling to the adults who told me how much taller and prettier I'd grown since they'd last seen me when I was, like, seven years old. I got bored with that too and went back downstairs where I paced around and texted my friend several desperate messages, all while trying to avoid hearing the sounds of the oh-so-intense video games that those people apparently loved so much. Two people actually recognized me from a math & science summer camp I went to three years ago. I don't see why they didn't recognize me sooner; after all, I knew them instantly ...maybe I have grown prettier :]
Their next order of business was to watch a movie called "Death Note." After further interrogation, I figured out it was based off of a manga. For those of you who don't know what a manga is, it's basically a Japanese graphic novel drawn anime style. I've never been interested in such things but w/e. The movie was all in Japanese and it had English subtitles. It was one of those corny things where the visual and sound effects were totally unrealistic. I only saw about two minutes before I wanted to scream but everyone else was sooo into it. I shot off another desperate message before running back upstairs. They probably thought I was stuck up because I was so obviously ignoring the movie and texting on my cell phone.
When I got upstairs, I pleaded with my parents to go home. They said no, not yet because they were obviously having more fun than I was. I got my tote bag out of my dad's car and did my biology coloring plates in the sunroom which was the only isolated place in the house. It was still too noisy to study so when I was done with my coloring plates, I emerged from the sunroom and made small talk with the adults who introduced themselves to me by saying something along the lines of this; "My, you've grown so much! Do you remember me? No? Well, I'm so-and-so's mom/dad. Do you remember them? No? Well, I remember you. You're so pretty now." Hmm... how did I look before? Like a little girl? Probably.
I went upstairs and sat in the carpeted hallway to call a friend with my cell phone. I asked my dad to reimburse me for the minutes because he dragged me there in the first place, but he said no, I could just use his cell phone instead. Too late. When I went back downstairs, the people were finished with their movie. A guy had brought along his guitar and amp and he started to play some songs. I asked what songs they were and it turns out, they were from VIDEO GAMES. Did you know video games have their own theme songs? WITH LYRICS? IN JAPANESE??? Seriously. This girl who didn't even speak Japanese plugged in a microphone and started singing along with the guy who played the guitar. Sacre bleu! Who knew?
It turns out the whole party was a triple birthday. A girl (who I apparently knew when I was in kindergarten and she was in second grade), her friend, and the first girl's grandfather were celebrating their birthdays. It was held at the first girl's house and when she opened each and every one of her presents, she let out a squeal. Here's a recap: a stack of like 9-12 mangas/novels, candy, hand-drawn anime birthday cards from her friends, and a huge book about the world of a VIDEO GAME. I don't remember the title but she was sooo excited. I think I might be forgetting a few items but I do remember she got a hoodie from American Eagle. She wasn't that excited but then again, I understand. It wasn't a very special hoodie.
Call me cruel, mean, judgmental, and rude, but I can honestly say that I don't care. It wasn't a great night and now everyone probably thinks I'm anti-social. I know someone who could've cheered me up but he wasn't there. *sigh* Oh well, I survived even if it was one perfectly good outfit wasted. Yay for cell phones, ice cream cake, and cars.
